Straight answers to common signage questions
Find practical answers about signage quotations, site surveys, artwork, materials, durability, installation and the areas we cover. The guidance explains what information helps at each stage, where a site check may still be needed and why the right specification depends on the environment, lifespan and intended use.
Planning and quotations
What information should I send for a signage quote?
Include the site postcode, intended location, approximate dimensions, required wording, quantity, photographs, brand files, preferred material if known and desired timescale. Mention whether you need design, survey, removal, delivery or installation. We can advise when some details are still undecided.
Can you quote from photographs?
Often, yes, for an initial budget or straightforward replacement. Photographs should show the full location, close views of the surface or existing sign, access and surrounding context. Final manufacture may still depend on verified dimensions or a survey.
Do you provide free site surveys?
Free site surveys are available for suitable projects in Kent. Whether a survey is needed and whether it is chargeable depends on location, scope and the information already available. We will confirm this before arranging a visit.
How long will my project take?
Lead time depends on design approval, material availability, fabrication, quantity, installation planning and site access. We provide a realistic programme for the agreed specification rather than advertising one turnaround for every type of sign.
Design and artwork
What artwork files do you need?
Vector logo files such as AI, EPS, PDF or SVG are usually best for lettering and logos, provided they contain the correct artwork. High-resolution PDF, TIFF, PSD, JPEG or PNG files may be suitable for print depending on the finished size. Supply brand guidelines and fonts where licensing permits.
Can you redraw a low-resolution logo?
We can assess whether a logo can be accurately recreated as vector artwork. The scope and cost depend on complexity and whether authoritative brand references are available. We will not alter a protected logo or guess at details without approval.
Will I see a proof?
Yes. Production proceeds after the relevant layout, wording, dimensions and specification have been approved. Proofs are representations and should explain that screen colour is not a guaranteed physical colour match unless a specific colour-matching process is agreed.
Materials and durability
Which sign material lasts longest?
There is no single answer. Lifespan depends on the complete system: substrate, print or finish, laminate, fabrication, fixings, exposure, cleaning, location and maintenance. A durable outdoor sign and an economical indoor display require different specifications.
What is the difference between Foamex and ACM?
Foamex is an expanded PVC sheet commonly used for lightweight indoor and shorter-term display work. ACM is a rigid aluminium-composite panel widely used for flat signage and trays. Grade, thickness, support and environment all affect suitability.
Can you supply recyclable or PVC-free signage?
We can discuss options such as paper-based display media, polypropylene products, aluminium-based panels, PVC-free films or reusable systems where they fit the brief. We consider the complete product, including adhesives, inks, contamination and the available local waste route, so the recommendation reflects how it will actually be used and handled.
Installation
Do you remove old signage?
This can be included when agreed. We need to assess access, fixings, electrical elements, substrate condition and disposal. Removing an old sign can reveal damage or unrecorded conditions, so the quotation should state assumptions.
Do you provide RAMS?
Risk assessments and method statements can be prepared for installations that require them. Site-specific information, induction requirements, access arrangements and principal-contractor documentation must be supplied in sufficient time.
Can you install while our organisation remains open?
Often, with suitable planning. The method may involve segregating the work area, arranging quieter periods, phasing the installation or coordinating with a site contact. Safety and disruption requirements are discussed before the date is agreed.
Working area and projects
Do you only work with large organisations?
No. We support businesses, schools, public bodies, charities, agencies and other organisations on projects ranging from individual signs and vehicle graphics to coordinated multi-site work. Fit depends on the brief, not company size alone.
Do you work with design agencies?
Yes. We can provide technical specification, artwork checks, production and installation while respecting the agency’s client relationship and agreed communication structure.
